Decayed teeth require treatment with a filling (fillings) or other restoration depending on the severity of caries.

The filling may last many years before it has to be replaced, but the seals are exposed to constant pressure from chewing.

Clenching or grinding teeth also puts tremendous force on fillings and tooth enamel.

All this can make the seals are wear, chipping, crack or fall.

Over time, the edges of the filling can wear down or may loosen the seal surrounding enamel, leaving a very small space between the tooth and the filling.

This condition may allow bacteria to enter and cause decay in the margins (edges) of the filling.

Bacteria can not be removed once enter that space. Often the damage is not because there are no symptoms until the decay reaches the nerve of the tooth.

Poor dental hygiene or poor diet, gum recession or lack of saliva can contribute to tooth decay.

If no treatment is given to recurrent caries can progress from the enamel to the dental pulp, the living center of the tooth.

With origins dating back over 4,000 years, green tea has always been a popular drink in Asian culture, and has been gaining popularity in the West.

As the ancient Chinese medicine and Japanese argued that the consumption of this tea could cure diseases and heal wounds, recent studies have begun to establish potential health benefits of green tea consumption, especially in weight loss, heart health and cancer prevention.

Now, a study published in the Journal of Periodontology, has discovered another benefit of green tea consumption. Specifically, researchers have found that the habit of drinking this tea can help promote healthy teeth and gums.

The study analyzed the periodontal health of 940 men of 49-59 years and found those who regularly took this product had better dental health than those who drank only sporadically.

The ability of green tea to help reduce the symptoms of periodontal disease may be due to the presence of the antioxidant catechin.

Previous research had already demonstrated the ability of antioxidants to reduce inflammation, and disease indicators measured in this study suggest the existence of an inflammatory response to periodontal bacteria in the mouth. Interfering with this response, green tea may actually help promote periodontal health, and even prevent other ailments.

Periodontal disease is a chronic ailment just inflammation that affects the gums and bone that support the teeth, and has been associated with the progression of other diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. “The periodontist believe that maintaining healthy gums is absolutely critical to maintaining a healthy body,” said David Cichran, president of the American Academy of Periodontology.

Do you have vague symptoms that are mildly annoying, but not severe? Hypothyroidism is marked by the gradual onset of fatigue, the inability to lose weight, brittle hair, constipation, feeling cold all the time, and dry skin. Alone, these symptoms are hardly noticeable, or can easily be attributed to a myriad of factors. Together, they may mean your thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormones to keep the metabolism in working order.

A common way of recognizing possible hypothyroidism is the feeling of being tired after getting a good night’s sleep. If there is no other obvious reason, the thyroid gland should be looked at. This condition is more common in women than men, especially older women. The inability to lose eight, even when religiously sticking to a diet is also a good sign that the metabolism is not up to par. It is worth speaking to a doctor if you suspect that hypothyroidism may be causing these symptoms.

The most commonly ordered tests for evaluating hypothyroidism symptoms is a blood test for thyroid hormones T3 & T4. If the blood test comes back with low thyroid hormone levels, synthetic hormones may be prescribed. This hormone therapy will be adjusted over a period of several months. It only takes a month or two to start feeling better once the dosage is correct.

Pregnant women and those taking some oral contraceptives experience high levels of the hormone progesterone.

Elevated levels of this hormone increases the sensitivity of the gums to the bacteria found in plaque can cause gingivitis (red or sensitive gums that bleed easily when you brush your teeth).

The need to increase and the desire for food and snacks, especially sticky foods that stay on the teeth over time can cause cavities in teeth.

Diseases of the morning (nausea and vomiting) during pregnancy may also increase the incidence of dental health problems. Frequent vomiting can leave stomach acids in the mouth.
If this acid is not removed quickly, can damage the sur face of the teeth and cause cavities.

Pregnant women are sometimes very busy and may not have time and energy to care for them and their oral health.

In addition, pregnant women may experience no symptoms until they reach advanced stages of the disease.

If you suffer from this problem, you can combat it by following these tips:

Brush your tongue, just as we brush our teeth

Parsley and mint: Chewing fresh leaves of parsley or mint for 10 to 15 minutes

Lemon: chew a piece of lemon peel for a couple of minutes after meals

Baking: rinsing the mouth after brushing with a little warm water and a pinch of baking soda

Lesions and mouth sores or canker sores, and nose are the main causes of bad breath. However, are very common causes digestion and breakdown in the mouth of the food consumed, and hormonal factors (certain phases of the menstrual period in women).

The presence of caries and teeth out of position, together with poor oral hygiene, leads to accumulation of food wastes to decompose causing a stench that is expelled with the breath.

Against bad breath, parsley, mint or lemon

The digestion of certain foods like garlic, onions, peppers, very fatty foods, certain spices, etc.. produce gases that contribute to bad breath.

The consumption of alcohol and snuff also causes halitosis, as well as the presence of infections in areas where air circulates: pharynx, larynx, bronchi or lungs

It is important to know that the trauma of the lesions of the mouth and teeth can be reduced if action is just the injury occurs. The suggestions listed below may be helpful to relieve pain, promote healing process and maybe even save the tooth after a dental emergency. But will not replace the work of the dentist who will make the correct diagnosis and perform the appropriate treatment.

Toothache
If you have a toothache, gently wipe the painful area using a soft bristle toothbrush and floss. Rinse with warm salt water. Do not place aspirin on the gum or tooth, as this can cause a burn. Apply a cold compress to any facial swelling. Take paracetamol and call your dentist as soon as possible.

In case of a brief, sharp pain, both chewing and eating something cold, there may be an incomplete fracture of a tooth (green stick fracture). The dentist can correct the problem with a filling (restoration), provided in the case of an incomplete fracture without loosening of the tooth.

The upper teeth, particularly the forwards if they are prominent, are more prone to injuries and fractures. If after injury the tooth does not respond to stimulus from the air, it is likely that the damage affected only the hard outer surface (enamel). This does not require immediate treatment if it is a small crack.

Fractures of the middle layer of the tooth (dentin) are usually painful when exposed to air and food, which is why people with such fractures request immediate assistance. If the fracture affects the innermost part of the tooth (pulp), is often a red spot and some blood in the fracture. It may be necessary to address the root to remove the remaining pulp before they die and cause severe pain.

If the patient is under 12 years, the root treatment may be delayed until the complete formation of the roots of affected teeth.

Call your dentist if a wound or bruise a tooth loosens its socket, or if you bleed too much gum tissue.
