The prostheses are structures or devices that aesthetically and functionally replace the missing natural teeth in the mouth.

There are many types and shapes of dental prostheses.

Can be classified into two main groups:

Removable dentures

Fixed prosthodontics. Within these deserve a special section Implants.

Removable Prosthesis

Are those that can get in and out, ie not bound to oral structures, but simply anchored in them.

Some are acrylic-plastic pink-This type is used when there are few teeth in the mouth or there is none (complete denture) and also, when the teeth are not in good condition to bear the burden of a prosthesis heavier.

Are attached by adhesion to the gum, so that the tissue-call.

The other type of removable prosthesis is formed by those that support the teeth and, sometimes, also on the gums. Are mucodentosoportadas.

They are made with a metal frame that rests on the gum and hooks to anchor in the teeth.

They are less bulky than the tissue-and therefore something more comfortable, but they need to have a sufficient number of teeth and that they have acceptable conditions and are strong enough.

Must be all that common characteristics are described below:

Stability. Is the property of the prosthesis should not slide or swing in the mouth.

Retention. It is the anchor for the prosthesis should not detach. Achieved with hooks or clasps.

Support. It refers to the base should be enough not to sink or dig into the gum.

If any of these properties fails, the prosthesis is maladjusted and can cause wounds, sores or inflamed gums and continuous discomfort in chewing.

These prostheses have a lifetime that will be more or less long depending on their care and the characteristics of people who wear it.

The gum drop over time, and following an excessive thinning of the person or when removed several pieces.

In these cases, the prosthesis will be maladjusted and to modify it properly.

These prostheses need each day for maintenance care. They should be removed after each meal and proceed to clean them thoroughly, using water and a special brush to be found in the market and to facilitate their cleaning.

Should also leave a few hours immersed in a liquid antiseptic-Steradent pills, for example-to ensure proper sanitation and complete disinfection.

These prostheses are very porous and easily retain food debris and large number of germs that cause inflammation of mucous membranes in mouth and gums, so it is necessary to keep them very clean and sanitized.

It may or may not keep them in the mouth during the night, but to rest the gum, it would be prudent to remove them and place them in a clean
